Oracle 12c install error - Oracle Net Configuration Assistant keep searching the listener ports 

The installer will stuck on the Oracle Net Configuration Assistant and will never complete, it will keep searching the listener ports, starting from 1521, it will keep searching the next port 1522, then so on. 

Even the listener port 1521 is free and not being used, but Net Configuration Assistant keep putting the following messages in the directory "cfgtoollogs/netca"

Resolution:

- check the /etc/hosts file, it should contain the fully qualified name of the host machine with the IP.

- update the /etc/hosts with the correct hostname / ip and Oracle Net Configuration Assistant will pick the right hostname and will get the listener port for the configuration.

- to make sure check the installer screen , also log file can be checked under "cfgtoollogs/netca"

Oracle 12c Installer error -- no oraInstaller in java.library.path

 Oracle 12c Installer error - 

[INS-10102] Installer initialization failed
- no oraInstaller in java.library.path

- make sure oraInst.loc file has the valid location of oraInventory path and oracle os user has the permissions to read the oraInst.loc file and read / write on oraInventory.

- install the following package  libnsl.so.1 with root user
#dnf install libnsl

 Error "-bash: !2: event not found" while converting the PKCS12 keystore (.p12/.pfx) to the Java Keystore (.jks)

Introduction:

Some times there is a need to convert the PKCS12 keystore to the Java Keystore or vice versa. This post will cover how to convert the PKCS12 keystore to the java keystore.

Commands and details:

* Please do no apply any of the following command on the PROD, always test the commands on TEST or DEV machine and if you think its fine then do on PROD with full responsibility of your own.*

1- make a test / working directory

2- copy the PKCS12 keystore in that directory, make a backup of the original PKCS12 keystore

3- run the following command

[testuser@testserver1020 workingdirectory]# keytool -importkeystore -deststorepass KeepTheStrongPassword4TargetKeystore -destkeypass KeepTheStrongPassword4TargetKeystore -destkeystore new_java_keystore_name.jks -destalias AliasOfTheCert -srckeystore server.pfx -srcstoretype PKCS12 -srcstorepass TheSourcePKCS12KeystorePassword

Above command might give the following error

-bash: !2: event not found

Resolution of the error:

give the following command with out "-srcstorepass TheSourcePKCS12KeystorePassword", and the command will ask you the password on the prompt, give the password and it will convert the PKCS12 file to JKS keystore

error ORA-27154: post/wait create failed - while starting ASM instance

Objective:

Got the following issue while starting up ASM instance.

ORA-27154: post/wait create failed
ORA-27300: OS system dependent operation:semget failed with status: 28
ORA-27301: OS failure message: No space left on device
ORA-27302: failure occurred at: sskgpcreates

Cook Book:

Checked the sysctl.conf file and found the following entry

kernel.sem = 275  100

Updated the above with the following and executed command "sysctl -p"

kernel.sem = 250 32000 100 256

Started the ASM instance and it came up :)

how to delete files in UNIX which contains special characters like " , ( , ',)

Objective: If the file in Unix contains special characters in its name, then a simple "rm" command will not work, so what is the solution!

 We can use the escape character "\" to remove such files.
